PahadiKala is an online marketplace built around one idea: let artisans from the Uttarakhand hills sell directly to customers, instead of routing their work through middlemen who never touch a needle or a paintbrush.
We're based in Someshwar, a small town in the Kumaon hills of Uttarakhand. Most of the artisans we work with live within a few hours of here. They've been doing Aipan painting or crochet work for years, sometimes generations, but never had a real way to sell beyond their own village or a local mela.
That's the gap PahadiKala fills. We photograph the products, list them, and handle the website and logistics, so the artisan can just focus on making. There's no factory in between and no bulk reseller marking things up; the person whose hands made your product is the one who gets paid for it.
It's still a small operation. We'd rather grow it by getting the basics right (real photos, honest pricing, products that actually match what's shown) than by cutting corners to look bigger than we are.
